POLL: City Wall of Fame proposed to honour Maitland greats
Les Darcy, Doc Evatt, Edmund Barton and Garry Barton are just some of the names suggested for a Maitland wall of honour.
With the clinking of Olympic and paralympic medals still echoing across the city freshly appointed Maitland deputy mayor councillor Brian Burke flagged the idea at council’s meeting this week.
Cr Burke had just seconded a motion to name lane one at Maitland Pool after paralympic swimmer Maddi Elliott on Tuesday night suggesting there could be a greater honour in the pipeline for her.
“What I would just like to mention is a wall of fame,” he said.
“I know it almost got to the kick off point last time I was here.”
Early in the new millennium Cr Burke put a motion that council construct such a wall but it never came to be.
