An event that has brought together the orphans and surrendered children of Maitland throughout the 1900s is about to come to an end. The last official Monte Pio/Murray Dwyer reunion will be on Sunday, spelling the end of an era for two of the Hunter’s renowned orphanages.
“After 20 years, we figured it was time to call it a day. I think it’s time to move on and also time to close a few doors,” former Monte Pio girl and reunion organiser Anne Incze said.
