Maitland has the best flood mitigation scheme in the country, according to a local flood historian, but a national authority says downpours in the state’s south have shown serious holes in federal risk management funding.
Maitland flood historian Peter Bogan who
said that although the Maitland levee and spillways haven’t been tested against a one in 100 year flood they have fared well against one in 20 year floods.
